The Founder

I'm Gavin, the founder of Wolverine Personal Training, and I believe that effective personal training should be about far more than simply working harder in the gym.

It should be about understanding why your body responds the way it does, creating a plan that fits around your life, and giving you the knowledge, confidence and consistency to achieve results that actually last.

My approach to personal training has been shaped by two things that have always fascinated me: science and people.

I have a degree in Biology, with a particular interest in nutrition, biochemistry and hormones, and I spent much of my professional career working as a teacher. Teaching taught me something that is just as important to personal training as knowledge of anatomy or exercise physiology: everyone learns differently.

There is no single approach that works for everyone.

Some people need structure and accountability. Some need to understand the science behind what they are doing. Others simply need someone to make fitness manageable alongside work, family and everything else life throws at them.

My job is to work out what you need.

A scientific approach to getting results

Fitness advice is everywhere. The problem is that much of it is contradictory, oversimplified or based on the latest trend rather than good evidence.

I take a different approach.

My background in biology gives me a strong foundation in human physiology, metabolism, nutrition, biochemistry and hormonal function, while my passion for resistance training has led me to develop a particular interest in muscle growth, body composition, strength and performance.

I'm fascinated by what happens inside the body when we train — from the mechanical tension placed on muscle fibres to the adaptations that occur in response to training, nutrition, recovery and changes in energy balance.

But science is only useful if you can turn it into something practical.

You don't need to understand every biochemical pathway involved in muscle protein synthesis to build muscle. You need a training programme that provides the right stimulus, enough nutrition to support adaptation, appropriate recovery and a system that you can consistently follow.

That is where good coaching makes the difference.

Experience beyond the gym

My background in education has also shaped the way I work with clients.

I don't want you to become dependent on a personal trainer forever. I want you to understand what you're doing and why you're doing it.

Rather than simply telling you which exercises to perform, I aim to teach you how to train effectively, how to structure your nutrition, how to recognise progress and how to make sensible decisions when life doesn't go according to plan.

Whether you're completely new to training or you've been lifting for years, I'll meet you where you are and build from there.

Training for real life

Wolverine PT is particularly focused on helping adults who want to become stronger, leaner, fitter and healthier without having to put their entire life on hold.

As we get older, our priorities change. Work becomes demanding. Family commitments increase. Recovery can become more important. Injuries and niggles can start to influence how we train. What worked at 20 may not be the best strategy at 40 or 50.

That doesn't mean you have to accept declining fitness or muscle mass as inevitable.

With the right training, nutrition, recovery and consistency, the body remains remarkably adaptable.

My goal is to help you make the most of that potential.

Whether your goal is to lose body fat, build noticeable muscle, increase strength, improve your fitness, feel better in your clothes, return to training after an injury, or simply become the strongest and healthiest version of yourself, your programme should be built around your starting point and your goal.

More than a workout plan

Personal training isn't just counting repetitions.

It's understanding your goals, assessing where you are starting from, tracking what happens over time and continually adjusting the plan as you progress.

It's knowing when to push harder — and when to back off.

It's helping you stay consistent when motivation disappears.

It's making changes when something isn't working rather than blindly following a programme.

And perhaps most importantly, it's helping you develop the knowledge and confidence to eventually take control of your own fitness.

That is what I want Wolverine PT to provide.

Evidence-based training. Individualised coaching. No gimmicks. No one-size-fits-all programmes.

Just a structured, intelligent approach to helping you become stronger, fitter and more confident in your own body.

The Wolverine Philosophy

Train intelligently.

Eat appropriately.

Recover properly.

Stay consistent.

Keep progressing.

Your goal is personal.

Your training should be too.
